Midomo uses an internal filter system, powered by the rotation of the wheels, to transform harmful water to drinkable water on-the-go. A user would roll the unit to the nearest source of water, fill the 50 litre tank, and roll it home. Once home, the water drawn from the unit is potable to World Health Organisation standards.
For specific technical questions, test reports or to receive product specifications for midomo, please send your request to James@redbuttondesign.co.uk
It currently costs $160 to implement a midomo water purifier and $25 to purchase a replacement filter. This gives a resultant cost of 0.3 cents, or 0.2 pence, per litre of water over the lifespan of the product.
Is Red Button Design a charity?
Red Button Design is not a charity, we're a social enterprise. In our case this means operating under the legal structure of a 'company limited by shares' (SC 328215) with adherence to a strict ethical code agreed upon by a syndicate of like-minded investors.
Why have we chosen to do business in this way? We believe that the charity model works excellently for relief efforts and disaster response (the 2004 Tsunami for example) but that, for long term development projects, it can become an unreliable, unsustainable, source of income. By running a profitable social enterprise in the humanitarian sector, Red Button Design can stimulate competition leading to the reliable development of more effective product and service offerings to benefit some of the world’s most under-served communities.
To celebrate the launch of Midomo, Red Button Design has commissioned the "Midomo Bracelet".
Designed by award-winning jewellery designer, Alex Monroe, each bracelet sold will cover the cost of donating one Midomo to an African community. Through a unique serial number hand engraved on one of the charms, the owner of each bracelet can also track the journey of their donated Midomo online to see how they personally are making a difference.

Are you looking for investment?
Red Button Design recently raised second stage investment and, as such, is not currently seeking further equity finance. However there are numerous ways to financially and experientially support us, and we're happy to consider these case by case. Please email Amanda@redbuttondesign.co.uk to discuss.
Will you come and speak at my event / school?
Both Amanda and James regularly present at educational, enterprise, and charity events. If you're interested in having one (or both) of the Partners attend your event please do get in touch.
